Island Experiences
An ocean breeze puts a mind at ease - Explore the island by land, sea and air.
The Island of St. John is the smallest of the three U.S. Virgin Islands, but it has a lot to offer. It's one of the most charming and unique islands in the Caribbean and it captivates with its natural beauty.
Eco-tours in the national park
The island of St. John is the third largest U.S. Virgin Island and is home to only 5,000 people.
Over 60% of the Island is U.S. national park land and attracts visitors from all around the globe.
The national park offers more than just its beautiful beaches and unique marine life. There are more than 20 hiking trails on St. John with accessible boardwalks that let you wind through historic ruins or take you to a bird viewing deck on one of the fascinating salt ponds. Whether you hike on your own, or join a guided tour, make sure to visit the ancient Petroglyphs, the old Sugar Mill plantations or just hike to take in the views and lush green vegetations.
The National Park Visitor's Center is located in Cruz Bay and is a wonderful resource for planning your outdoor activities.

Cruz Bay
Cruz Bay is St. John’s main town. Located on the west end of the island. It is small and quaint with narrow streets, an easy natural feeling, and no stoplights. There's a small square in the center of town across from the ferry dock which is often filled with the sounds of live music, arts and crafts fairs, and the slapping of dominoes taxi drivers play while waiting for a fare. Open-air bars and restaurants, streetside cafes, and small shops offering an eclectic selection of items from around the world are tucked into a whimsical assortment of buildings, old and new.
Cruz Bay has every basic need covered with its grocery stores, drug stores, gas stations, post office, banks and a communications center.

Coral Bay
Coral Bay is the island's only other village. Blink and you will miss it — but don't, because it is a destination in itself. Located on the east end of the island, small shops, delis and restaurants dot the road around Coral Bay. There is Skinny Legs Bar and Grill, which has the best burgers and grilled fish sandwiches on the island. The characters lined up at the bar are also great entertainment. Surrounding Skinny Legs are various shops and galleries. Keep going east and you will discover Hurricane Hole, a part of the national park that is filled with small bays.
Water Sports
With the incredibly clear and pristine waters of the Virgin Islands, it's no surprise that there are numerous water sport activities available on St. John. Everything from snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, kayaking or paddle boarding is readily available from professional well-run businesses. Our estate manager is happy to make reservations for any activities you wish to participate in.
Helicopter tours
There is no other way to see and experience the Virgin Islands at the same time other than with a helicopter. Taking a bird’s eye view from above is as spectacular and impressive as it can get.
Caribbean Buzz Helicopters provides a variety of services and tours for the ultimate experience. You can also charter them for an airport transfer from St. Thomas airport straight to the helipad on St. John - by far the quickest option to travel.

Beaches
Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay are the two most well known beaches on St. John. Trunk Bay, named as one of the world’s most photogenic beaches by National Geographic, is so close that you look right at it from the pool deck. There are many more equally beautiful beaches to explore all over the island. You could spend a month and not visit the same beach twice and often you only share the beauty with a few other people.
Just a two minute drive from Hawksview Estate you’ll find Hawksnest Beach. The snorkeling is particularly good along the north shore past Gibney Beach. Seahorses, spotted eagle rays, turtles, peacock flounder, groupers, and parrot fish are just a few of the sea creatures seen there.
Trunk Bay also features an underwater snorkeling trail which is worth checking out.
Maho Bay is long and shallow, perfect for young children, and is particularly famous for its turtles who inhabited the bay after the major hurricanes in 2017.

While St. Thomas is world-renowned for its duty-free shopping, shopping on St. John is also world-class, without the hustle and bustle. There are numerous galleries and practicing artists on the island. The low-key approach belies the level of sophistication you will find.
Be sure to spend some time at Mongoose Junction, the main shopping center offering a wide range of shops, galleries, art, gift items and eating establishments.
